1) What is the U.S.S. Kelly?

The Kelly is a STAR TREK fan club based in the Salt Lake City, Utah area. Our club offers a setting of fun and family STAR TREK based enjoyment. Our 'mission' is to promote the good values espoused in the STAR TREK series. Membership is open to anyone regardless of race, gender, disability, financial situation, political or religious affiliation. In short, we try to live the spirit of the IDIC.

2) How can I join the U.S.S. Kelly, and what does it cost?

To join, you need to attend two of the monthly Kelly activities, fill out an application and crew profile form, meet the Kelly's Command Staff, and receive your orders from the Seventh Fleet. The Kelly is a "pay as you go" club. The only money involved comes when the ship does an activity where there is a cost (for example: a laser tag game, going to the zoo, a show, or bowling), or in purchasing the quarterly newsletter, the KELLY COMMUNIQUE. There are absolutely NO dues.

3) Do I HAVE to join a department?

The answer to this is both yes and no. You do need to receive your orders from the Seventh Fleet, but if you do not wish to join in the rank advancement program, you can be assigned as a civilian, specialist or ambassador. This has the advantage of avoiding all those trivia tests, etc. required for rank advancement. However, since it is the departments that pass on the (usually) most urgent information, it is a good idea to associate yourself with a particular department.

4) How old do you have to be to join?

The minimum age requirement to join on your own is 16. If you are under 16 you may come if a parent joins with you or supervises you at activities. The Kelly is a family-oriented ship, but we are not a babysitting service.

5) How often does the Kelly meet, and where?

The Kelly usually meets at least once per month for a ship wide activity and once per month as a department. The monthly Kelly activities are posted on the Current Events page. Some departments have their own web pages, and should have their monthly Department activities listed as well. (See the Meet The Crew page for these links.)

6) How will I know what is required for my next rank advancement?

This is actually why you will need to choose a department when you come aboard. Each department has a department head (a.k.a. "Senior Officer"). It is this person's responsibility to let you know not only what is required for your next rank, but teach you how to record what you've done and help you achieve it. (It is more than likely that your Senior Officer will also be working toward their own rank advancement.)
Also, the Operations Officer is responsible for tracking what you have reported. This information is used to inform your Senior Officer how much farther you have to go for your next rank.

7) Do you hold your members to any behavioral standards?
